The fastest tool for your homework
NEC launched today SX-9, the word fastest vector supercomputer that exceeds 100Giga FLOPS per single CPU core (1 Giga = 1,000 Million, 1 Tera = 1,000 Giga).
FLOPS is the acronym for FLoating point Operations Per Second, the unit of measurement for computing capacity.
SX-9 packs multiple CPUs that together provide a peak theoretical processing performance of 839 TeraFLOPS. In addition to the newly developed CPU, the SX-9 combines large-scale shared memory of up to 1,000 GigaByte and ultra high inter-node communication speed up to 128GigaBit/second.
Applications for the SX-9 are in fields such as weather forecasting, fluid dynamics and environmental simulation, as well as simulations for materials in nanotechnology and polymeric design.
Oh, and your homework must be really important as the SX-9 rents for US$26,000 a month.
