Thus have I heard. The Blessed One was once staying at Vesali at the Gabled Hall in the Great Wood. Now at that time a number of Brahmans, who had been sent on pressing business of one kind or another from Kosali and Magadha, were lodging at Vesali.
“Is it not pleasant to learn with a constant perseverance and application?" “Is it not delightful to have friends coming from distant quarters?" “Is he not a man of complete virtue, who feels no discomposure though men may take no note of him?”
Soma and Pusan, Parents of all riches, Parents of earth and Parents of high heaven, You Twain, brought forth as the whole world's protectors, the Gods have made centre of life eternal. At birth of these two Gods all Gods are joyful: they have caused darkness, which we hate, to vanish. With these, with Soma and with Pusan, India generates ripe warm milk in the raw milch-cows.
Each of the two half-monthly sacrifices, the regular performance of which is enjoined on the Brahmanical householder for a period of thirty years from the time of his performance of the ceremony of agny-adhana, or setting up of a fire of his own,--according to some authorities even for the rest of his life--usually occupies the greater part of two consecutive days.

A certain man had a donkey, which had carried the corn-sacks to the mill indefatigably for many a long year; but his strength was going, and he was growing more and more unfit for work.
There was once a mighty emperor and empress. One of the disciples of an ascetic asked his teacher, "My venerable master, kindly instruct me how many times a householder can visit his legal wife."
The ascetic replied, "Only once in his lifetime."
The disciple said, "Oh my Lord! This is absolutely impossible for worldly men. Passion is dreadful and troublesome. This world is full of temptations and distractions.
"What a beautiful head! Yet it is of no value, as it entirely lacks brains."
"The Grapes are sour, and not ripe as I thought."
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.
Let no one be slow to seek wisdom when he is young nor weary in the search thereof when he is grown old. For no age is too early or too late for the health of the soul.
Between ourselves, my dear fellow, I don’t care about the way you sometimes have of exhibiting your talent for philosophy; you make religion a subject for sarcastic remarks, and even for open ridicule. Every one thinks his religion sacred, and therefore you ought to respect it.
What are the Annamaya, Prāṇamaya, Manomaya, Vijñānamaya and Ānanḍamaya Kośas? Annamaya sheath is the aggregate of the materials formed by food. When the ten Vāyus, flow through the Annamaya sheath, then it is called the Prāṇamaya sheath. When Āṭmā connected with the above two sheaths performs the functions of hearing, etc., through the 14 organs of Man as and others, then it is called Manomaya sheath.
There is only one true emancipation. O Kapi, even a person addicted to evil practices attains the salvation of Salokya through the uttering of My name, but not of other worlds. Should one die in Brahmanala in Kasi, he attains My Taraka.
Rāma said- It is even so as you have said, that the mind is a pure essence, and has no connection with the earth, and other material substances; and that it is verily Brahmā itself.

Nowhere is there everlasting happiness; nowhere eternal residence. Over and over again is there a downfall from a high position attained with difficulty.
Hearing it (explained), this lord of men may cross beyond all misery, so that gain and loss, (what is) agreeable and (what is) odious, old age and death, fear and vindictiveness, hunger and thirst, frenzy and worldly greatness, disgust and also laziness, desire and wrath, ruin and prosperity, may not trouble him.'
