    40S Ribosomal Protein S3

Encoded by human RPS3 Gene (S3P Family), cytoplasmic and nuclear 243-aa 27-kDa Ribosomal Protein S3 contains a KH type-2 domain and is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit as part of the translation initiation domain. Composed of small 40S and large 60S subunits containing 4 rRNAs and approximately 80 proteins, ribosomes catalyze protein synthesis. RPS3 also appears to be an endonuclease involved in UV-induced DNA repair. (NCI Thesaurus)
