    ADRBK2 wt Allele

Human ADRBK2 wild-type allele is located within 22q11 and is approximately 159 kb in length. This allele, which encodes beta-adrenergic receptor kinase 2 protein, is involved in the phosphorylation of the activated form of the beta-adrenergic and related G-protein-coupled receptors. This modification results in mediation of agonist-specific desensitization observed at high agonist concentrations. Certain allelic variants of the ADRBK2 gene are associated with susceptibility to bipolar disorder. (NCI Thesaurus)
