    Benign Phyllodes Tumor

A benign, circumscribed fibroepithelial neoplasm of the breast. It is characterized by the presence of epithelial structures which are arranged in clefts and by a hypercellular mesenchymal stroma which is organized in leaf-like structures. There is no evidence of cellular atypia or sarcomatous features. Necrotic changes may be noted in large tumors. It usually presents as a unilateral, firm, painless breast mass. Recurrences may develop following surgical resection. (NCI Thesaurus)
