    Bile Acid Sequestrant

    A highly charged polymeric agent use to bind bile acids in the gastrointestinal tract and prevent their reabsorption from the gut. The bound bile acids are excreted with the feces and plasma cholesterol is converted to bile acid to reestablish normal bile acid levels, resulting in a lowering of plasma cholesterol concentrations.
