    Canakinumab

A recombinant monoclonal antibody targeting human interleukin-1 beta (IL-1b), with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating activities. Canakinumab binds IL-1b and prevents the binding of IL-1b to the IL-1 receptor and inhibits IL-1b-mediated signaling. This may suppress inflammatory responses mediated by IL-1b. IL-1b, a proinflammatory cytokine, plays a key role in inflammation. (NCI Thesaurus)
