    Corynebacterium striatum

    Definition 1

    A species of aerobic or facultatively anaerobic, Gram-positive, coryneform, pleomorphic bacilli assigned to the phylum Actinobacteria. This species is nonmotile, non-spore forming, catalase positive, urease negative, pyrazinamidase positive, reduces nitrate, ferments glucose and sucrose, non-lipophilic, indole negative, and hydrolyzes gelatin. C. striatum is commensal in the skin and nasal flora and is a pathogen known to cause bacteremia in immunocompromised patients with respiratory infections, skin ulcers, or during surgery.
