    Detrital carbonate

    Crystalline calcium carbonate found in ocean sediments, usually derived from continental weathering of carbonate rock. Detrital carbonate is more resistant to dissolution compared to the calcium carbonate produced by plankton that falls directly to the seafloor. (NOAA Paleoclimate Glossary)
