Enrico Caruso (1873 - 1921) was an Italian who sang to great acclaim at the major opera houses of Europe and North and South America. His voluminous record sales and outstanding voice, admired for its beauty, power and rich tonal qualities, made him the leading male operatic star of his era.
On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary, from New Zealand, and Tenzing Norgay, from Nepal, became the first humans to successfully climb to the peak of Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.
