    Euchromatin

    Definition 1

    Euchromatin. The parts of chromosomes that, during interphase, are uncoiled dispersed threads and not stained by ordinary dyes; metabolically active, in contrast to the inert heterochromatin. (NCI Thesaurus)

    Chromosome regions that are loosely packaged and more accessible to RNA polymerases than HETEROCHROMATIN. These regions also stain differentially in CHROMOSOME BANDING preparations. (NLM, Medical Subject Headings)
