    Isoelectric Focusing

    Definition 1

A type of gel electrophoresis in which charged molecules travel through a pH gradient. The molecules will come to stop at the point where the net charge on the molecule is equal to that of the surrounding gel. (NCI Thesaurus)

    Definition 2

Electrophoresis in which a pH gradient is established in a gel medium and proteins migrate until they reach the site (or focus) at which the pH is equal to their isoelectric point. (NLM, Medical Subject Headings)
