    Lake Winnipesaukee is located in Central New Hampshire, USA, two-hour drive from Boston. Area of water surface is about 186 Km2 and has 264 smaller and larger islands, making it a very attractive boating destination.

    The lake is surrounded by several quiet, charming, small towns, places where there is no rush hour, people go out of their way to help: Center Harbor, Meredith, Laconia, Alton and Wolfeboro.

    The town of Wolfeboro was granted in 1759, settled in 1768, and incorporated in 1770. It was granted by the colonial Governor John Wentworth and named for General Wolfe who was the hero of the Battle of Quebec. The town is considered “The Oldest Summer Resort in America." For some visitors is a four-season vacation destination. For others, considering that winters are pretty cold, is just one or two seasons.

    Tourist Attractions

    New Hampshire Boat Museum offers two sessions of boat building one for adults and one for children 12 years old and up. The New Hampshire Boat Museum supplies all the tools, supplies and expertise to help you build your own boat.

    Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Antique and Classic Boat Show held in July at the Wolfeboro Town Docks.

    Laconia Motorcycle Week is a motorcycle rally held annually in June in Laconia, New Hampshire. The rally has its origin in the Loudon Classic motorcycle race started in 1923 and the Gypsy tour, where many motorcyclists passed through Laconia. Events were scheduled, including races, shows and a motorcycle hill climb competition.

    Pumpkin Fest. An attempt to recapture the Guinness World Record of the most lit jack-o’-lanterns in one place.

    New Hampshire Highland Games and Festival at Loon Mountain is the largest Scottish cultural festival in the Northeast USA. This festival is dedicated to the advancement of the traditional music, dance, and customs of the Scottish.

    Soul Fest. An annual Christian music festival that takes place at the Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford, New Hampshire and features three stages and over 80 artists and speakers.

    Hotels and Restaurants

    The Pavilion, the first hotel of major significance was built in 1850 and was followed by several others. Today’s tourists can find accommodation in about five inns and bed & breakfast motels, or increasingly popular, rent an entire house. Many more hotels are available in the neighboring towns.
