    Legionella pneumophila

    Definition 1

    A species of aerobic, gram negative, rod shaped bacteria in the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile by flagella, nonacid fast, pleomorphic, nonencapsulated, nonfermentative, urease negative and oxidase and catalase positive. L. pneumophila is pathogenic, being the causative agent of legionellosis or Legionnaires disease. (NCI Thesaurus)
