    Definition 1

    A process that analyzes data from different studies done about the same subject. The results of a meta-analysis are usually stronger than the results of any study by itself. (NCI Dictionary)

    Definition 2

    A set of statistical procedures designed to accumulate experimental and correlational results across independent studies that address a related set of research questions. (NCI Thesaurus)

    Definition 3

    The formal evaluation of the quantitative evidence from two or more trials bearing on the same question. NOTE: This most commonly involves the statistical combination of summary statistics from the various trials, but the term is sometimes also used to refer to the combination of the raw data.
