    MMP2 wt Allele

Human MMP2 wild-type allele is located within 16q13-q21 and is approximately 27 kb in length. This allele, which encodes 72 kDa type IV collagenase protein, is involved in the breakdown of the extracellular matrix via the degradation of type IV collagen, the major structural component of basement membranes. The MMP2 gene is associated with neoplasm invasiveness. (NCI Thesaurus)
