    Porphyromonas asaccharolytica

    Definition 1

    A species of obligately anaerobic, Gram-negative, rod shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Bacteroidetes. This species is nonmotile, non-spore forming, indole and alpha-fucosidase positive, liquefies gelatin, pigmented, utilizes trypticase, proteose and peptone as energy sources, nonfermenting, trypsin negative, and does not reduce nitrate or hydrolyze starch or esculin. P. asaccharolytica is commensal to the human oropharynx, gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts, but can become pathogenic. (NCI Thesaurus)
