    Recombinant Transforming Growth Factor-Alpha

    Definition 1

A recombinant form of Transforming Growth Factor-Alpha, a polypeptide growth factor involved with the growth and differentiation of epidermal and epithelial cells, playing a role in phenotypic transformation. It is structurally and functionally similar to Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) and binds to the same receptor. (NCI Thesaurus)

    Definition 2

Factor isolated in a variety of tissues including epithelium, and maternal decidua. It is closely related to EPIDERMAL GROWTH FACTOR and binds to the EGF receptor. TGF-alpha acts synergistically with TGF-beta in inducing phenotypic transformation, but its physiological role is unknown. (NLM, Medical Subject Headings)
