Retinopathy of Prematurity Stage 3 Ridge with Extraretinal Fibroblastic Proliferation
Definition 1
An ophthalmoscopic finding that refers to retinopathy of prematurity characterized by the presence of extraretinal fibrovascular tissue. (NCI Thesaurus)
Definition 2
Prior to the development of ROP in the premature infant, vascularization of the retina is incomplete or "immature". In Stage 3: Ridge with extraretinal fibrovascular proliferation, the neovascularization extends from the ridge into the vitreous. This extraretinal proliferating tissue is continuous with the posterior aspect of the ridge, causing a ragged appearance as the proliferation becomes more extensive. (NICHD)
