    Somatostatin Receptor 1

    Definition 1

Somatostatin acts at many sites to inhibit the release of many hormones and other secretory proteins. The biological effects of somatostatin are probably mediated by a family of G protein-coupled receptors that are expressed in a tissue-specific manner. Thish protein is a member of the superfamily of somatostatin receptors having seven transmembrane segments, and is expressed in highest levels in jejunum and stomach. (NCI Thesaurus/LocusLink)

    Definition 2

Somatostatin binds to a group of structurally related tissue-specific high-affinity integral membrane GPCRs (family 1), coupled via G proteins to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. Somatostatin Receptor 1 is expressed in fetal kidney and liver, and adult pancreas, brain, lung, jejunum, and stomach. SSTR1 also stimulates phosphotyrosine phosphatase and the Na+/H+ exchanger via G proteins. (from OMIM 182451, SWISS-PROT P30872, and NCI) (NCI Thesaurus)
