    Staphylococcus kloosii

    Definition 1

    A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram positive, cocci shaped bacteria in the phylum Firmicutes. This species is positive for catalase and alkaline phosphatase and negative for oxidase and coagulase. It can ferment trehalose, mannitol, and ribose but not xylitol, xylose, or cellobiose. S. kloosii is found on the skin of squirrels, dogs, and pigs and is not known to be a human pathogen. (NCI Thesaurus)
