    Yersinia ruckeri

    Definition 1

    A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacteria in the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile, positive for ornithine decarboxylase, lysine decarboxylase, and beta galactosidase and negative for indole, urease, and oxidase. It is able to ferment trehalose, mannitol, and maltose but not sucrose, cellobiose, sorbitol, inositol, rhamnose, raffinose, or melibiose. Y. ruckeri is found in aqueous environments and is the causative agent of redmouth in fish, but is not a known human pathogen. (NCI Thesaurus)
