    Axitinib

    Pronunciation

    Definition 1

A drug used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (the most common type of kidney cancer). It is used in patients who have not gotten better with other anticancer drugs. It is a type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor and a type of antiangiogenesis agent. Also called Inlyta. (NCI Dictionary)

    Definition 2

An orally bioavailable tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Axitinib inhibits the proangiogenic cytokines vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGF), thereby exerting an anti-angiogenic effect. (NCI Thesaurus)
