    Chemokine (C-X-C Motif) Ligand 1

    Definition 1

A CXC (or alpha) chemokine also known as MGSA, or melanoma growth-stimulating activity. This family of chemokines also includes IL-8, platelet factor 4 (PF-4), beta-thromboglobulin (b-TG), IP-10, and ENA-78. GRO is chemotactic for neutrophils. (NCI Thesaurus)

    Definition 2

GRO1 (MGSA) is a CXC (alpha) mitogenic chemokine secreted by melanoma cells, structurally related to platelet derived beta-thromboglobulin, and chemotactic for neutrophils. MGSA belongs to a superfamily of proteins that includes interleukin-8 and platelet factor-4. Chemokines regulate immune system function and leukocyte trafficking, through interactions with GPCRs, and have effects on the central nervous system as well as endothelial cells involved in angiogenesis or angiostasis. (from OMIM 155730 and NCI) (NCI Thesaurus)
