    ERBB2 wt Allele

Human ERBB2 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 17q21.1 and is approximately 29 kb in length. This allele, which encodes receptor tyrosine-protein kinase erbB-2 protein, plays a role in EGF receptor signal transduction pathways and cellular growth. Amplification or overexpression of this gene is involved in the progression of several forms of cancer, including breast and ovarian tumors. (NCI Thesaurus)
