    The traditional unit of mass derived from the weight of a grain and equal to one seven-thousandth of a pound, or 1/480 troy ounce, or 64.79891 milligrams. The original English grain unit based on the mass of a ripe grain barleycorn was larger the corresponding grain units of France and other European nations which were based on the weight of the smaller wheat grain.
