    Interstitial Emphysema

    Pathologic accumulation of air in the interstitium of the lungs. It is caused by the rupture of alveoli and terminal bronchioles. It is most often seen in premature infants that need mechanical ventilation for respiratory distress syndrome. (NCI Thesaurus)
