    Staphylococcus pasteuri

    Definition 1

    A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram positive, cocci shaped bacteria in the phylum Firmicutes. This species is positive for catalase and negative for coagulase, alkaline phosphatase, and oxidase. It can ferment glucose, fructose, glycerol, sucrose, maltose, mannitol and trehalose but not mannose, cellobiose, arabinose, ribose, turanose, or xylose. S. pasteuri is found in a wide variety of animal and environmental sources and is a human pathogen when ingested. (NCI Thesaurus)
