    MMP3 wt Allele

Human MMP3 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 11q22.3 and is approximately 8 kb in length. This allele, which encodes stromelysin-1 protein, plays a role in the regulation of matrix remodeling via the activation of matrix metalloproteinase precursors. It is also involved in the inhibition of breast tumor cell metastasis through the degradation of plasminogen and laminin. The MMP3 gene is associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and neoplasm invasiveness. (NCI Thesaurus)
